Gerota’s fascia: Fibrous tissue that surrounds the kidney and the fatty tissue next to the kidney.

hereditary papillary renal cell carcinoma: Having this inherited condition makes it more likely a person will develop one or more renal cell carcinomas, but unlike people with Von Hippel-Lindau disease, they are not at unusually high risk of other types of tumors.

immunotherapy: This treatment uses the body's immune system to fight cancer.

intravenous pyelogram (IVP): Iodine-based dye is injected into the body through a vein. The dye makes its way through the blood, eventually being removed by the kidneys, and passing through the ureters and bladder. The IVP is a series of X-rays that constructs a picture of the dye as it passes through these organs. Abnormal growths can then be seen on the X-ray films.
