Preventing Kidney Cancer

Though kidney cancer can strike both men and women, children and adults, there are some steps you can take to reduce your risk of developing kidney cancer.

To help prevent kidney cancer and to take steps toward better health, in general, try the following:
  • Stop smoking, or if you don't smoke, don't start. If you are a smoker, talk to your doctor about methods of quitting.
  • Eat a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Get plenty of exercise. Aim to exercise for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week. Before starting an exercise program, talk to your doctor.
  • Get your blood pressure under control, if you have high or borderline high blood pressure.
  • Avoid exposing yourself to toxins, both in the workplace and at home.
